Makalawena Beach
Just north of Kona Coast State Park lies Makalawena Beach. It is a small paradise with
white coral sands contrasting nicely against the black of water blasted lava rocks. While not
much of a swimmers beach, the colors here overwhelm the senses and there is much to see and
explore for those who'd rather walk than lay in the sun.
The difficult trail to the
beach over a field of ai-ai lava flows ensures that the beach remains unpopulated through
most of the day.
