Kilauea Iki

Looking East

Seeking respite from the heat and the sun we find shade along the western rim of the crater. There we sit awhile refueling. Then suddenly the earth jerks strongly, a single jerk that sends us scrambling to our feet. Like prey animals suddenly sensing the nearness of a predator we stand alert, our senses sharpened, ready for further quakes, relying on our instincts to lead us out of trouble should trouble rear its ugly head. Thankfully, no more quakes follow and we quickly gather our belongings as we head up and out of the crater.
