Yes, even here life has made a comeback. We stand awhile admiring the striking colors, the verdent pines, the rust hued pumice, the bone-white branches. But, the sun beats down without mercy and we turn back. We pick up the Kilauea trail and head west across the floor of the Kilauea Crater to a trail leading up the North rim and out of the larger crater.
